Thea's Top 6 tips for treating Dry Skin

Image via Shiosvili

There has always been a lot of talk in the both the medical and beauty industries about what causes dry skin and how to treat dry skin, along with discussions about which are the best dry skin products on the market.

So, what do you do when you suffer from this irritating problem which can range from dry, dull skin on your body or cracked heels, through to very itchy and flaking skin?

Our skin takes a battering during the winter and for most of us it's about keeping dry skin at bay so that we can reveal wonderful-looking, hydrated skin in the warmer months.

So here are my top 6 tips to give your dry skin that extra nourishment that it needs...

20% OFF ALL NATURAL
DRY SKIN PRODUCTS

1. Drink plenty of fluids daily
One of the main causes of dry skin is dehydration, so drink lots of water or herbal teas which are full of antioxidants. Great examples are as Rooibos, green and white tea which all keep your skin hydrated and banish those free radicals which can cause premature ageing.

2. Use a face moisturiser and rich body cream twice daily
Don't miss your daily skin feed - nourish it with rich natural and organic ingredients. Use natural skin care products with nourishing moisturisers and oils such as coconut, palm, olive and jojoba, or if you have very dry skin use body butter such as Thea favourite Super Nourish Beauty Hand and Body Beauty Butter

My trick is to use a light body lotion such as the Thea Lavender and Rose Hydrating BodyLotion in the day and at night I use a richer body butter such as the Age Revival Rooibos Body Butter to really nourish, hydrate and treat dry skin whilst you sleep.

3. Use a chemical-, Paraben- and sulphate-free shower and body wash
I know it's for babies but I just love this TheaBaby Naturals Organic Aloe and Rosehip 2 in 1 Calming Bath & Body Wash on my own body as it's gentle and moisturising, and leaves me in a wonderfully relaxed mood. I use it day and night!

4. Exfoliate the skin on your body your skin at least twice a week
Exfoliation is a must for good dry skin care. The Thea Super Nourish Lavender Soufflé Body Scrub is ideal for this time of the year. Dry skin cells just melt away, leaving fresh, new skin on show which looks healthier and feels softer.

5. Use a face exfoliator twice a week
You should use a good face exfoliator for dry skin such as the Age Revival Dream Crème Face Exfoliator at least twice a week - you'll see almost instant results.

6. Treat your skin with respect
Remember that your skin is the largest organ of the body so treat it with respect and it will respect you in return. Use natural and organic skincare products which are better for nourishing and treating dry skin, cleanse with a cream cleanser or foaming cleanser twice daily, exfoliate regularly and moisturise at least twice a day, morning and night... just watch as your skin improves and starts to look smoother and more gorgeous every day!

Why are Natural Anti Aging Products Better than Botox?

When it comes to natural versus chemical, I have this discussion with my girlfriends all the time. Some, like me, have never had Botox whilst others have had this type of treatment. I've heard both sides of the story and seen the results, and I would always opt for a natural anti aging product over botox.

So, why do I think natural skincare is better than Botox?

There's no doubt in my mind that using natural anti aging products protects the skin and makes it glow with health and a youthful vitality. I've never had a botox treatment before, but some of my friends have and they still worry about wrinkles and fine lines around the face.

Botox is a bacteria that's injected into the area that wants to be treated. One of my friends has spent thousands of pounds on this treatment and to be honest she looks no better than someone who's used  natural anti aging products at a fraction of the costs.

It's all in the name - they're natural products that hold back the years and can even make you look more than 10 years younger if used regularly as part of your daily skincare routine.

Why? Simply put, an anti aging cleanser or moisturiser will contain high levels of antioxidants that stop the nasty free radicals in the environment from attacking your normal skin cells, which causes pre-mature ageing.

Thea Skincare products are 100% natural and organically enriched, plus they're also enriched with vitamins such as Vitamins C and E, which I love in skincare products. These two vitamins not only fight free radicals but also deeply nourish and hydrate the skin.

Natural anti aging products have high levels of antioxidants such as Rooibos, Green and White tea which actively slow down the ageing process and have excellent rejuvenating properties, to give you younger looking skin that is radiant and beautiful. The Thea Skincare Age Revival range is a collection of natural anti aging products that combat the effects of premature ageing and fight off the free radicals that cause it. The ingredients are 100% natural and produce excellent, skin-enhancing results for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

All Thea Skincare anti aging products have high levels of antioxidants such as the Age Revival UpliftingFace Crème which contains the super antioxidant Rooibos, and Thea Skincare Age Revival Lifting Face and NeckSerum is one of my favourites as it's an anti-aging power house packed with Rooibos, Green and White tea antioxidants to fight the many signs of ageing.

All in all, the use natural anti aging products combined with a good skincare routine and healthy diet cannot be compared to Botox treatments. Natural products have longer lasting beneficial effects and are perfectly safe to use. If in doubt, always opt for natural!

6 Simple Tips on Dry Skin Care for the Face this Winter

The skin on the face is so soft that the harsh winter weather can be harmful to it, and if not looked after properly can lead to dry skin on face.

Thea offers 6 simple dry skin care tips to help you to ensure that you maintain healthy, glowing skin throughout the winter months, so that you blossom naturally in the summer.

1. Use an organic face cream enriched with vitamins such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E to hydrate, nourish and balance your skin. Thea Skincare Super Nourish Aloe and Vitamin C Replenishing Face Cream is packed full of these skin nourishing vitamins and is ideal for getting rid of dry skin on face.

2.      Avoid using soap, especially on the face. Many soaps are alkaline based and can destroy the skin's natural acid mantle that is on the outer layer of the skin. Our skin needs to be slightly acidic, otherwise you will end up with excessive dryness on the face and the rest of the body.

3.      Use natural and organic skincare products that are naturally pH balanced to suit the pH of the skin. Thea Skincare products are all formulated to match the skin's natural pH balance perfectly.

4.      One of the main causes of dry skin is dehydration so drink plenty of water throughout the day, or an organic and highly anti-oxidant tea such as Rooibos or Green Tea. Then top up your skincare care routine with a a specially formulated dry skin care serum such as Thea Super Nourish Nutri-rich Face Serum under your night cream or moisturiser to give your skin super hydration and extra nourishment, keeping it supple and soft all day long.

5.      Avoid using skincare products with chemicals. Chemicals play havoc with dry skin and can make it worse. They can also lead to skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea. Thea Super Nourish Hand and Body Beauty Butter is a dry skin care treat for dehydrated skin and can help to alleviate and treat dry skin conditions.

6.     Finally... moisturise, moisturise and moisturise, morning, noon and night! Use a super hydrating face moisturiser such as the Perfect Me Moisturiser which is great for dry and sensitive skin alike, or if you prefer a very rich face cream try the Thea Super Nourish NutriRich Face Cream to deeply nourish and hydrate the skin.

The Best Cream for Dry Skin on your Hands and Feet

I returned from a trip to Malawi in Africa only a few weeks ago. I was back in the UK for just a few days when I noticed that already my skin was changing. It suddenly went from being soft and supple to becoming dry, particularly on my hands and feet.

The winter months in cold climates can play havoc with the skin, especially on those parts of the body that are exposed to the winter elements. So, I realised that I had to step-up my skincare routine and concentrate more on keeping my hands and feet well nourished and protected with especially formulated dry skin products.

There are 4 winter nourishing oils that I simply adore as they keep your skin soft and hydrated throughout the year, especially during the harsh winter months. These oils are found in almost all of Thea Skincare products as they are excellent moisturisers for the face, body, hands and feet. They work really well in a cream for dry skin that can be applied to hands, feet, elbows and anywhere else that needs some TLC.

Coconut oil is one of my favourite oils - it's just great for all types of skin. It's a safe solution for preventing dry and flaking skin, plus it helps to delay wrinkles and the sagging of skin which become more pronounced with age. Coconut oil can also be used to treat skin problems such as psoriasis and, of course, in dry skin care products. It's a perfect all round skincare oil.

Jojoba oil is another favourite of mine which is a very underrated dry skin care oil because it's fabulous for all round moisturising of the skin. Jojoba oil is very close in composition to the skin's natural oil which makes it one of the most effective moisturisers around, as it spreads and absorbs really well.

Another oil I have began to love is neem oil. I only discovered neem oil a few years ago but now that I know more about it I can see why it's referred to as the cocoa and Shea butter of the East - it's an excellent moisturiser, high in Vitamin E and rich in natural emollients and fatty acids which makes it the perfet moisturiser for soothing dry skin products and for treating cracked skin, especially on the heels.

Finally, another great oil which is brilliant for massage as well as in natural skin care products is grapeseed oil which is a light but effective oil that is excellent for massage and skincare products.

The Thea Skincare Nourishing Hands & Feet Duo combines all 4 of these wonderfully rich oils with many more nourishing ingredients, to create an ultra-hydrating cream for dry skin for your feet, and one for your hands too. It's the ultimate wintertime treat!

Using natural dry skin care products with rich oils will help you to maintain healthy, nourished, hydrated skin throughout the winter months.
