There has always been a lot of talk in the both the medical and beauty industries about what causes dry skin and how to treat dry skin, along with discussions about which are the best dry skin products on the market.
So, what do you do when you suffer from this irritating problem which
can range from dry, dull skin on your body or cracked heels, through to very itchy and
flaking skin?
Our skin takes a battering during the winter and for most of us it's
about keeping dry skin at bay so that we can reveal wonderful-looking, hydrated
skin in the warmer months.
So here are my top 6 tips to give your dry skin that extra nourishment that it needs...
1. Drink plenty of fluids daily
One of the main causes of dry skin is
dehydration, so drink lots of water or
herbal teas which are full of antioxidants. Great examples are as Rooibos, green and white
tea which all keep your skin hydrated and banish those free radicals which can cause
premature ageing.
2. Use a
face moisturiser and rich body cream twice daily
Don't miss your daily skin feed - nourish it with rich natural and organic ingredients. Use natural skin care
products with nourishing moisturisers and oils such as coconut, palm, olive and jojoba, or if you have very dry skin use body butter such as
Thea favourite Super Nourish Beauty Hand and Body Beauty Butter.
My trick is to use a light body lotion such as the Thea Lavender and Rose Hydrating BodyLotion in the day and at night I use a richer body
butter such as the Age Revival Rooibos Body Butter to really
nourish,hydrate and treat dry
skin whilst you sleep.
3. Use a
chemical-, Paraben- and sulphate-free shower and body wash
I know it's for babies but I just love this TheaBaby Naturals Organic Aloe and Rosehip 2 in 1 Calming Bath & Body Wash
on my own body as it's gentle and moisturising, and leaves me in a wonderfully relaxed mood. I use it day and night!
4. Exfoliate
the skin on your body your skin at least twice a week
Exfoliation is a must
for good dry skin care. The Thea Super Nourish Lavender Soufflé Body Scrub is ideal for this time of the year. Dry
skin cells just melt away, leaving fresh, new skin on show which looks
healthier and feels softer.
5. Use a
face exfoliator twice a week
You should use a good face exfoliator for dry skin such as the Age Revival Dream Crème Face Exfoliator
at least twice a week - you'll see almost instant results.
6. Treat your skin with respect
Remember
that your skin is the largest organ of the body so treat it with respect and it
will respect you in return. Use natural and organic skincare products which are
better for nourishing and treating dry skin, cleanse with a cream cleanser
or foaming cleanser twice daily, exfoliate regularly and
moisturise at least twice a day, morning and night... just watch as your skin
improves and starts to look smoother and more gorgeous every day!
